COVID-19 Information
All of us have been affected in some way by the COVID- 19 pandemic, whether it is medically, psychologically, professionally or socially. At the Chevy Chase Breast Center, our first priority is for the health and safety of our patients and staff.
We are following national guidelines for the care of our patients. For our breast cancer patients, we are using guidelines developed by the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncologists, and the American College of Surgeons.
We offer virtual consultations via telemedicine via FaceTime, Zoom, and Skype. Some appointments can be completely virtual, such as an appointment for breast cancer risk assessment and management. For other appointments, we are using telemedicine consultations before and after a brief physical examination
and ultrasound to minimize contact when social distancing is not possible. We encourage patients with active issues, such as a new breast lump, to contact our office, and start their evaluation wiith a telemedicine consultation.
Our staff is using frequent handwashing, hand sanitizer, gloves and masks for in-person medical appointments.
We are screening all of our patients for COVID-19 risk with a questionnaire prior to and upon arrival to our center.
Our staff is implementing social distancing measures, and we encourage our patients to do so.
We encourage patients to wear a face mask, particularly when social distancing is not feasible. The CDC website has instructions for making a face mask with simple, readily available materials without the need to sew. One such mask uses a bandana, paper coffee filter, and rubber bands.
We will resume seeing patients for regularly scheduled breast cancer screening, monitoring, and follow-up appointments as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
Please contact us with any questions or concerns. We are here to help you!
